Rivian R3X: Innovation for Sustainable Transportation

The R3 and R3X were two additional models that Rivian revealed at its March 2024 R2 reveal event, although no one expected to see them. Because of the element of surprise, they almost eclipsed the R2 as the most thrilling revelations from the event. However, it was the powerful Rivian R3X that drew attention with its contemporary interpretation of classic rally cars from the past.

On March 7, 2024, the Rivian R3X and R3 were formally introduced at a Laguna Beach, California gathering. The car, which was a total surprise, is the company’s interpretation of an electric crossover and is a direct rival to well-known gas crossovers.

The precise price of the R3 or R3X is still unknown. All that is known is that the R3 will have a basic pricing that is even cheaper than the R2. According to Rivian’s CEO, it is expected to start at $45,000 before the federal tax credit.

Design of New Rivian R3X and R3

The R3 and new Rivian R3X represent Rivian’s vision for an electric crossover and are a scaled-down version of the R2. Both lines are on the same platform and have many of the same features. RJ Scaringe, CEO of Rivian, refers to the two as siblings.

The R3’s exterior design and feel are unquestionably different, especially compared to the R3X model. The company’s performance variant, the R3X, has a wider stance. It also has more robust tires and greater ground clearance for enhanced off-road prowess. But the R3 is the base model.

The R3 has a front trunk that may carry cargo, just like the R2. According to Rivian, the R3’s front trunk is marginally smaller than the R1S’s, and although the front hood opens automatically, it must be manually closed.

The R3X’s interior deviates from the R2 and R3, providing an even more distinctive cabin dubbed “Rugged Playful” by the manufacturer. The R3X’s interior is significantly more colorful and has higher-quality materials than the R3’s.


The exact speeds of the R3 and R3X are unknown at this time. But Rivian SUV claims that the R2 can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 3 seconds. The tri-motor setup will have a 0–60 well under 3 seconds. We believe that the R3 and R3X will probably be even faster when compared to it.

Similar to the R2, the R3 and R3X will accept the Tesla’s NACS (North American Charging Standard) connector. Scaringe stated that the connector will be used in all Rivian vehicles starting in 2025. In March 2024, the corporation will also be able to utilize an adaptor for its cars that still have the CCS port to access the Supercharger network. The R3 is based on the same platform as the R2. It should be possible for it to charge from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes, according to the manufacturer.


It appears that there will be three different motor options available for the R3 and R3X:

  • R3: Rear wheel drive with a single motor
  • R3: All-wheel drive with Dual Motors
  • R3X: Three-Motor All-Wheel Drive

The car will also come with one of two battery packs, according to the company:

  • Standard battery pack: A range of approximately 270 miles is anticipated.
  • Large battery pack: Range of more than 300 miles

When we come closer to the point where consumers may reserve and customize those vehicles, the price will depend entirely on the motor and battery pack configuration you receive.


Fortunately, it looks like the R3 and R3X will work with the same accessories as the bigger R2. Indeed, according to Rivian, its next accessories will work with all of its vehicle lineup, which includes the R1T, R1S, R2, R3, and R3X.

The company is highlighting the bike rack. You can use it to attach your bikes to the top or back of your R3 or R3X. When not in use, the back mounts can be stored in the front trunk. They are tiny enough to fit in there and connect to the accessory ports on the back of the R3.


According to the founder and CEO of Rivian, the R3 will be significantly more affordable for customers than its R1. The car is constructed on a novel chassis that the manufacturer plans to apply to its next electric SUV, the R2. Although the R2 is a mid-size SUV, the R3 and Rivian R3X are the business’s electrified interpretation of crossovers, according to the company.
